The Far South Coast Local Area Command boundaries are those of the Eurobodalla Shire and the Bega Valley Shire. This encompasses an area of 9,704.240 square kilometres, 70% of which is contained in National Parks, State Forest and Crown Reserves and has a population of 63,618 people.

The command has a diverse topography, areas classified as rugged or mountainous are common throughout the Local Area Command, with escarpments generally restricted to the ranges. The highest point in the Local Area Command is Brown Mountain at 1,245 metres above sea level. There are three main highways into the Command, these being, the Princes Highway travelling north-south in the coastal area. The other two main roads being the Snowy Mountains Highway and the Kings Highway travelling in an east-westerly direction through the Command.

The Command has two major airports, one being at Moruya and the other located at Merimbula. Both have the capacity to carry propeller driven aeroplanes. These airlines supply a passenger and freight service to Sydney and Melbourne. Country Link, South Coast Express supply a service within all major towns in the Command to Sydney, Canberra and Victoria. These have the ability to link with Railway transport at Canberra and Sydney.

The Command contains numerous water bodies that are open to the sea as well as harbours which cater for commercial fishing fleets, ocean going tankers and recreational water users. The major port being that of Eden which has one of the largest commercial fishing fleets within the State. It also has the storage facilities for petroleum products that are transported by Ocean Tanker to the port. Twofold Bay at Eden is where the Cargo ships are loaded with Woodchips from the shore of the Woodchip mill and exported to Japan.

The main industries within the Command are building, forestry, fishing, dairying, tourism and retail and service related industries.
